R/UDAT team arrives Thursday
By F.M. Wiggins, Staff Writer
PETERSBURG — Almost a year after starting the Regional/Urban Design Assistance Team process all eight members of the team will be in town beginning Thursday to put pen to paper and take notes, listen to the public and develop a plan for the city’s downtown.
The eight R/UDAT team members were selected by the American Institute of Architechts for their specific area of expertise and how it will relate to the development of a plan for downtown.
The team will stay in the city through April 2 when they will make a formal presentation to the public. Team members will serve without compensation and will address specific issues in Petersburg related to economic development, transportation, the harbor and waterfront development.
On their first full day in town, the team the day will begin with a driving tour and then a walking tour of downtown. Following a working lunch the team, headed up by Jane Jenkins, executive director of the Downtown Boulder Improvement District, will be involved in focus group breakout sessions.
The intense discussions will center on some of the topics related to development in Petersburg’s downtown.
The team will host a discussion with the public at the Petersburg Regional Arts Center from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. After lunch, the team will begin developing the plan they will present just days later.
The next day the team will work to sketch out and create visuals for the public presentation April 2. The team will literally be working from sun up to sun up as they will be detailing and determining solutions for some of the problems identified by the public and from their own observations.
The team will give a presentation of their findings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. April 2 at PRAC.
